poppy development

To look more like the original poppy I have added two extra petals. The added drop shadow makes it stand out and appear 3D.

I think these designs are looking more like roses then poppies.

Poppy Appeal

I think it is a shame that poppy sales are going down. So I've deiced to have a go at the poppy appeal competition. Personally I  like the original paper poppies and try to give a donation every year. Hopefully my designs will provide a fresh new look and appeal more to the 'younger generation' (16-25).

Things to consider....
  • colours (keep the red!)
  • merchandise products that would appeal to young
  • change shape of poppy?
  • Typography?

I have quite a few drawings and ideas now.
Next I'll be developing them into logos, print designs, vector graphics etc in illustrator. Then apply them to merchandise.

Type lesson 3

Layout of a large amount of text.

Type lesson 2

First task, with out rearranging the words make the sentence 'four three two one' read 'one two three four.

The the second time was to do the same thing however without changing the size. So I changed the font. I don't think this one works as well, I should have swapped fonts between 'Three' and 'Two'.
The whole lesson was to experiment with the order we read things on a page.

I applied similar 'creative editing' to the proverb 'Alls well that ends well'

Tape lesson 1

Our first task was to type the word 'dog' but by changing the font to make the dog appear happy.
Using lower case makes the word less authoritative and friendly. The font used is a serif and very curved with no harsh points.

This next image represents a shy dog. I found it difficult to find a 'shy' font so shrunk the word to fit in the bottom left of the page. So it almost goes unlooked.

Four Postcards

For this project I am to produce 4 post cards based on the collected work form over the summer.
The first post card is to be a full colour image, photograph or illustration. The second is to be a 1 colour pictogram representing an activity. The 3rd is a 2 colour logo and finally a 3 colour plus tints vector word.

Some of the development work...

This full colour photograph starts the set of postcards because it relates to the other three.

This picture gram is fairly self explanatory. The blue is a swatch taken from the boats in the photograph above. I might develop it further by drawing strips to the shirt to make the man more distinctive. Also draw the boat again using a different curve tool.

After drawing a range of different Logos I have developed this one. The logo is not supposed to be at an angle (that's the scanners fault).  I like the idea however I need to change the type font or maybe decied to not use type at all.

This is a 2 colour (plus tints) type print. The font is based on the "gondola" boats in Venice  italian word "gondole". I chose the green colour to make it look slimy and decaying. The background colour is taken from the buildings in the 'full colour photograph' (above). From this colour i produced 2 tints.
I intend to develop all these postcards further and will post the finished ones up later.
