What I want to do and Why?
Draw- I enjoy this and I want to improve skills in this areaIllustration/Editorial Image - To be able to place my images into a context
Use computer software- This can aid and provide new possibilities to my work also it can be improved to a professional standard.
Digital Media- Apply work to screen and perhaps make it more assessable i.e through the web.
Motion Graphics/animation- I would like to investigate the possibilities in this area and how this can aid my work to move realistically.
Character Design- This perhaps comes under editorial image, any way this is an area i would like to gain experience in and develop skills in creating a character with expressions, body language...
Photography- This can improve my research skills with more added primary. I have recently bought an SLR camera which I want to use more.
Colour theory - since the first year I have been interested in how colour can effect an image, so i want to investigate this further and apply this to enhance my images.
Use mixed media- Develop a new style/ way of successful illustration production.
Improve my use of layout - Good use of layout can be a very effective way of delivering a message/image
From last week's session I selected three briefs and considered why i had chosen them.
Brief 1 My Dogs are Barking
This is a character design based brief which focuses on the origins and meanings of phrases used in the English Language.
This brief is a good opportunity for me to learn how to create characters and improve drawing skills etc
However i don't exactly know what the product would be yet.
what I do want to include from this brief
chose 3 phrases from the English language
study their origins and meanings
Create a character based on the interpretation of the phrases/sayings
In the form of Image/illustrative
Conveying the mood and meaning of the phrases
The form of a small printed book
To a specific target audience
Humorous tone of voice
Used to entertain and inform
what I don't want to include from this brief
A purely typographic interpretation of the phrases
Have an open target audience
serious tone of voice
too factual
no clear purpose
Brief 2 Wish you were here...
Design 3 postcards in the style of traditional postcards. Can be to paces fictional or real. Audience 16-30 year olds. This should also improve my layout and combining text with image skills.
what I do want to include from this brief
Target 16-30 year old interested in alternative music, film and culture.
Base the project on traditional design.
Perhaps develop further into a poster and apply to a range of appropriate products.
Tone of voice humorous, tragic, political
No restriction to quantity
photographic research
colour theory
show posters up in environment
what I don't want to include from this brief
Submit only three A6 size.
Design the back of postcard
Brief 3 Climate Cool
This is an animation brief. used to create a campaign to stop climate change and raise awareness of environmentally concerned charities/organizations. This is another good brief which includes character design and narrative. It would also be a good opportunity to use Flash and After Effects.
What don't I want to include from this brief
I don't want to do the campaign for all the charities and organizations listed. I'd prefer to just stick to Oxfam and Green peace as I already know quite a lot about these two charites, have done some campaign work for Green peace in the past I know these charities are not corrupt and that all profits etc go to where they are needed. I don't know much about christian aid that is why i would be reluctant to do the project for them.
Also this brief has provided a series of steps as a concept/proposition. I'd prefer to come up with my one based on my research and findings.
What I do want to include from this brief
Create an animation (using after effects and flash)
Quick time format
sound?
animation can be shown online and tv advertisement.
